Forgotten Skillz offers hands-on workshops, outdoor experiences, and experiential education programs across Long Island. Our events explore the connections between nature, traditional skills, cultural history, craft, science, stewardship, and human ingenuity through direct participation and discovery.
Programs may take participants into the woods to learn fire-making, navigation, foraging, ecology, or wilderness skills; into the workshop to explore historic crafts and technologies; or into the past through activities inspired by the ways people have created, adapted, solved problems, and understood their world. Events are designed for a range of ages and experience levels, with opportunities for children, teens, adults, families, homeschool communities, and the general public.

Discovery Lab: STEAM Homeschool Experience

Discovery Lab gives ages 11–14 opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math through hands-on investigation, experimentation, design, and problem-solving. Each session encourages students to ask questions, test ideas, work with materials, and discover how things work through direct experience.
Rather than simply learning concepts from a page, participants will explore real-world problems, develop possible solutions, test what happens, and adjust their thinking along the way. The emphasis is on curiosity, creativity, resourcefulness, collaboration, and learning through experimentation.
The Discovery Lab workshops also serve as Module 2 of the 4-part Praxis Program, connecting STEAM exploration with practical skills, leadership and personal development, and opportunities to apply what students learn through meaningful challenges.
