Forgotten Skillz offers hands-on workshops, outdoor experiences, and experiential education programs across Long Island. Our events explore the connections between nature, traditional skills, cultural history, craft, science, stewardship, and human ingenuity through direct participation and discovery.
Programs may take participants into the woods to learn fire-making, navigation, foraging, ecology, or wilderness skills; into the workshop to explore historic crafts and technologies; or into the past through activities inspired by the ways people have created, adapted, solved problems, and understood their world. Events are designed for a range of ages and experience levels, with opportunities for children, teens, adults, families, homeschool communities, and the general public.
Success Lab: Leadership & Teamwork Workshop

Success Lab gives kids between the ages 11–14 opportunities to explore leadership, communication, teamwork, decision-making, and other practical skills that help individuals and groups work more effectively. Each session combines discussion, reflection, and collaborative challenges designed to help students better understand themselves, work with others, and respond thoughtfully to real-world situations.
This session will focus on what it actually means to be a leader—moving beyond the idea that leadership simply means being “the person in charge.” Participants will explore how strong teams depend on different kinds of leadership, how individuals can recognize the strengths they bring to a group, and when effective leadership may mean stepping forward, stepping back, or relying on someone else’s abilities.
Through hands-on activities and team challenges, students will begin developing a practical framework for looking at themselves, the goal in front of them, and the people they are working with. The emphasis is on self-awareness, responsibility, collaboration, adaptability, and using individual strengths to help the whole team succeed.
The Success Lab workshops also serve as Module 3 of the 4-part Praxis Program, connecting practical skills and STEAM exploration with leadership and personal development before students apply what they have learned through meaningful challenges.
