Forgotten Skillz offers hands-on workshops, outdoor experiences, and experiential education programs across Long Island. Our events explore the connections between nature, traditional skills, cultural history, craft, science, stewardship, and human ingenuity through direct participation and discovery.

Programs may take participants into the woods to learn fire-making, navigation, foraging, ecology, or wilderness skills; into the workshop to explore historic crafts and technologies; or into the past through activities inspired by the ways people have created, adapted, solved problems, and understood their world. Events are designed for a range of ages and experience levels, with opportunities for children, teens, adults, families, homeschool communities, and the general public.

Wilderness Survival Series: 24-Hour Challenge (Sands Point)

October 24 @ 12:00 - October 25 @ 12:00
24-Hour Survival Challenge at Sands Point preserve with Forgotten Skillz

The ultimate outdoor learning experience, where skill meets self-discovery

October 24th- 25th | Noon to Noon | Sands Point Preserve | Beginner-Friendly

Step beyond the classroom and into a guided, overnight adventure designed to bring everything you’ve learned to life. The 24-Hour Survival Challenge is the capstone event of the Wilderness Survival Series — an immersive, carefully facilitated experience where participants test their skills, teamwork, and mindset in a supportive and educational outdoor environment.

Over the course of one unforgettable day and night, you’ll review and apply key lessons from the year’s workshops: building shelters, starting fires, navigating terrain, preparing food, and working with natural resources. You’ll camp under the stars, share meals around the fire, and rediscover what it means to feel at home in the outdoors — not as a test of endurance, but as a celebration of growth, connection, and capability.

On Sunday morning, participants will take part in a team-based challenge, where groups apply their collective knowledge to design and build a complete survival encampment — including shelter, fire, cooking system, and water collection. This friendly, collaborative activity honors both individual progress and the power of community as you demonstrate readiness across the domains of survival preparedness.

No prior attendance in the series is required — all experience levels are welcome. Every activity is guided by experienced instructors, with a focus on education, safety, and personal empowerment.

Highlights:

  • A fully guided 24-hour outdoor learning adventure
  • Hands-on practice and review of essential wilderness skills
  • Shared meals, teamwork, and campfire discussions on mindset and resilience
  • A supportive, safe, and educational environment for all skill levels

Join us for a weekend that’s less about “roughing it” and more about rediscovering what we’re capable of — together.
