Ancestral Skills for a Sustainable Modern Life
At Forgotten Skillz, we host a diverse array of hands-on workshops and events designed to revive and teach essential skills from the past that are incredibly relevant to modern life. Our events range from wilderness survival techniques, like fire-making and foraging, to traditional crafts such as basket weaving, soap making, and leatherworking. We believe that understanding and practicing these time-honored skills can empower individuals to lead more self-sufficient and sustainable lives, fostering a deeper connection with nature and our heritage.
Wilderness Shelter Building for Survival
When the elements turn harsh, a well-constructed shelter can mean the difference between life and death. Join us for the next installment in the Wilderness Survival Workshop Series at the beautiful Sands Point Preserve. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the essential skills to build reliable, protective shelters using both natural resources and survival tools.
Whether you’re a survival novice or honing your bushcraft expertise, this workshop equips you with practical techniques for staying safe, warm, and dry in unpredictable environments. Guided by survival experts Eric Powers and Mike Evans, you’ll explore a range of shelter-building methods, gaining confidence as you put your skills to work in the field.
This isn’t just theory—you’ll build your own shelter during the workshop. With your hands in the dirt and tools in hand, you’ll gain the confidence to face real-world survival challenges. Bring your work gloves and a survival knife (loaners available) as you dive into this interactive session. Prepare to get a little messy—it’s all part of the learning process!
This Survival Shelter workshop is part of our comprehensive Wilderness Survival Workshop Series, where participants can attend individual sessions or sign up for the entire series. Build your skills over the months and put them to the test in the culminating 24-hour Wilderness Survival Challenge in October. Each workshop builds toward total self-reliance, from water purification and fire-starting to foraging and navigation.
