Foraging for Food & Medicine at CEED

Reconnect with the Land: Foraging Workshop for Food & Medicine at CEED

Join us at the Center for Environmental Education and Discovery (CEED) in Brookhaven, NY, for an immersive Foraging for Food & Medicine Workshop that will change the way you see the natural world. Whether you’re new to foraging or looking to expand your skills, this workshop invites you to explore how wild plants can provide both nourishment and healing.

Guided by survival educators Eric Powers and Mike Evans, you’ll learn to:

  • Identify Edible Wild Plants: Walk the grounds of CEED and discover how to locate, identify, and safely harvest nutrient-rich wild foods like greens, berries, and roots.
  • Explore Medicinal Flora: Uncover the natural remedies hidden in common plants, learning how they’ve been used for centuries to promote wellness and healing.
  • Forage Responsibly: Understand ethical and sustainable foraging techniques that honor the land while ensuring its resources remain abundant.
  • Craft Wild-Foraged Teas: If the day’s harvest allows, we’ll brew simple teas using plants gathered during the session, offering a tangible taste of your newfound skills.

The CEED campus offers a rich and diverse environment, from woodlands to open spaces, making it an ideal location for exploring the natural abundance Long Island has to offer. This workshop blends outdoor education with hands-on practice, helping you build confidence in identifying and using plants for food and simple natural remedies.

Part of our monthly Wilderness Survival Workshop Series, this session can be taken on its own or as part of the full program, culminating in the 24-hour Wilderness Survival Challenge in October. Each workshop brings you closer to developing practical outdoor skills and a deeper connection to the natural world.
