“Learn the Ropes”
A Wilderness Survival Workshop on Cordage Crafting
Ready to elevate your survival skills? Join us for the second installment in our Wilderness Survival Workshop Series at the Center for Environmental Education and Discovery (CEED): “Learn the Ropes.” This hands-on workshop dives into one of the most versatile and essential skills for survival—crafting cordage.
Under the guidance of survival instructors Eric Powers and Mike Evans, you’ll explore the art and science of creating cords, strings, and ropes, essential tools that can mean the difference between thriving and merely surviving in the wild. Learn how to turn natural and improvised materials into strong, durable cordage that can be used for a wide range of survival applications, including:
- Shelter Building: Secure tarps, branches, or other materials to create sturdy, weather-resistant shelters.
- Ladders and Beds: Weave structures for climbing or creating elevated sleeping surfaces.
- Friction Fire Bows: Craft reliable bow strings to spark flames in emergency scenarios.
- Tool Making and Repairs: Strengthen and bind tools, repair gear, or fashion traps and snares.
This interactive workshop is as practical as it is fun. You’ll get your hands dirty twisting, braiding, and weaving materials into usable cordage. Dress for the outdoors in comfortable clothing, and don’t forget your work gloves—you’re going to put your fingers to the test!
Whether you’re new to survival skills or looking to expand your bushcraft repertoire, “Learn the Ropes” will prepare you to face challenges with confidence and creativity. Plus, you’ll leave with cordage you’ve crafted yourself—a tangible reminder of your growing skill set.
