Wilderness Survival Workshop Series - Sands Point

Foraging for Food & Medicine at Sands Point Preserve

Discover Nature’s Bounty: Foraging Workshop for Food & Medicine

Step into the stunning natural beauty of Sands Point Preserve and embark on a guided journey into the ancient practice of foraging. In this hands-on Foraging for Food & Medicine Workshop, survival and outdoor guides Eric Powers and Mike Evans will introduce you to the wild plants that have nourished and healed humanity for generations.

Foraging is more than simply identifying plants—it’s about building a connection with nature, understanding its resources, and using them ethically. During this workshop, you’ll learn to:

  • Identify Wild Edibles: Explore how to safely locate and harvest nutrient-rich plants, roots, berries, and greens that can provide sustenance in the wild.
  • Discover Medicinal Plants: Gain insights into the natural remedies hidden in your environment, learning how traditional cultures have used plants for wellness and healing.
  • Ethical Harvesting Practices: Learn how to forage responsibly, preserving the health of the land and its ecosystems.
  • Wild Tea Sampling: With a bit of luck, we’ll collect enough plants to craft and enjoy simple, refreshing wild-foraged teas, connecting you to the flavors of the local landscape.

With Sands Point Preserve’s unique blend of woodlands, fields, and coastal views, participants will explore a diverse ecosystem rich in foraging opportunities. Whether you’re a beginner or already have a budding interest in wild edibles, this workshop offers a blend of education and adventure.

This event is part of the Wilderness Survival Workshop Series, a monthly program that builds essential outdoor skills leading up to the thrilling 24-hour Wilderness Survival Challenge in October. You can join us for this single session or sign up for the full series to immerse yourself in a year of exploration and self-reliance.
